What stays on your Mac
Speech recognition, cleanup, and Transforms run on local models. Your audio, your transcripts, your History, and your Dictionary all live on your Mac. Your audio is never uploaded, and none of your content is used to train anyone’s AI. Your dictated text leaves your Mac only when you point it somewhere yourself:- Your own AI provider. If you connect your own key, your transcript text goes directly to the provider you chose. Never your audio.
- Online voice actions. GIF sends a short search phrase to fetch results, Open builds a link (such as a web search) and opens it in your browser, and Ask hands your prompt to the AI assistant you picked. How voice actions work
- Feedback you send us. If you report a problem and choose to attach your recording or transcript, we receive what you attached.
What the app sends
- Basic product signals (required). So we know the app is working at the most basic level, it reports a small set of anonymous events, such as “a dictation started” and “the result was delivered”. These never include your audio, your text, or the app you dictated into, and they are tied to a random installation identifier, not to you.
- Detailed diagnostics (optional). Extra usage and error data that helps us improve the app, described in the agreement screen on first launch. You can turn it off any time in Settings > Data and privacy > Diagnostics.
Your controls
- Diagnostics switch. Settings > Data and privacy. Turning it off never affects how the app works.
- History retention. Keep recent dictations for 7 days to 1 year, or clear them all at once.
- Delete all data. Settings > Data and privacy resets the app, removes local data, and signs you out.
