Everything adjustable lives in two places: the Home page has quick cards for the things you touch most, and Settings has the full list. This page covers shortcuts, connecting your own AI provider, History, Stats, and your data controls.

Change your shortcuts

You can change the dictation key in either place:
  • On Home, under Shortcuts and modes, click the key on the Dictation mode card and pick a new one.
  • In Settings > General, use the Dictation shortcut row.
The preset choices are Fn, Control, and the left or right Option and Command keys, and you can record a custom key. Enter is reserved for finishing Hands-free mode, so it cannot be the trigger. Hands-free mode has its own shortcut, set the same two ways on its own card and row. By default it matches your dictation key (double-tap to start), but you can give it a separate key entirely.

Connect your own AI provider

If your Mac has less than 16GB of memory, or you simply prefer your own model, the AI layer can run through a provider you connect instead of the on-device language model. Open Model in the sidebar, choose Your own model provider, and click Connect your own model. OpenAI and Anthropic keys work, and Custom accepts any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, including a local one like Ollama.
Your key stays on your Mac, and only your transcript text is sent to the provider you chose, never audio. If context features are on, the text of the field you are dictating into may be included so the model can match your writing.

History

History keeps your recent dictations on your Mac so you can copy or re-use them. You choose how long they are kept: 7 days, 30 days (the default), 90 days, or 1 year. Older ones clear automatically, and Clear local history wipes them all at once. Nothing in History is uploaded.

Stats

Home shows your dictated words, estimated time saved, day streak, and average speed, with a chart of your last 7 days.

Data and privacy

Settings > Data and privacy holds your data controls:
  • Diagnostics. Controls whether the app shares detailed diagnostics and usage data to help improve Mumble, never your transcripts or audio. Turning it off does not change how the app works, and takes effect the next time Mumble Dictation starts. The basic anonymous product signals described in the Privacy Policy are not affected by this switch.
  • Maintenance. Clears your History and other local data without resetting the app.
  • Delete all data. Resets the app, removes local data, and signs you out.
